Before breeding females it is very important to know their blood type. If they are blood type B, it will be important to breed them only to other B males.
Procedure for Blood Typing
- Take cat to Veterinarian
- Have 1 - 2 cc's of blood taken, spun down in red top tube.
- If Veterinarian has a problem giving you the blood, tell them you are working closely with another breeder and want to use the same system so the numbers for titre are consistent and come from the same place.
- To send blood, wrap the tube in paper towels (1 or 2), and then put in a zip lock bag. Cover with more paper towels and the ice pack. Pad real well.
- Fill out Lab form (enclosed) and include in package.
- Send next day U.S. mail or Fed Ex and be sure to sign the signature waiver. When you sign the waiver, anyone at Cornell can pick up the package and helps to speed the process.
